Bukele, a fierce Bitcoin supporter, received strong support from the public on October 26 after being officially nominated by his party for re-election. The president's New Ideas party is supported by 70% of the country's voting population, according to Reuters, citing a study by an El Salvador university. The nearest opponent received only 4% of the total votes.
2️⃣ Singapore launches cross-border crypto projects with Europe and Japan. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has launched Project Guardian with 15 financial institutions to manage cross-border cryptocurrencies. Project Guardian aims to promote cryptocurrency pilots in the areas of fixed income, foreign exchange and asset management, curbing illegal transactions. As part of its regulatory efforts, MAS has issued licenses to crypto companies, of which Coinbase has received a license for a large-scale Payment Institution.
3️⃣ Thailand's Kasikornbank entered the cryptocurrency sector with the acquisition of the Sanang exchange. Thailand's Kasikorn Bank has acquired a majority stake in the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Satang to expand its market share in the cryptocurrency sector. Kasikorn's $10 million purchase will restructure Satang's operations into a digital asset fund, custodian and blockchain developer.
4️⃣ Animoca Brands was invested $50 million by Saudi Arabia's state fund. Half of the $50 million Animoca Brands received from Saudi Arabia's state-owned investment fund NEOM came through convertible bonds, while NEOM bought shares of the Web3 game developer on the secondary market. This is part of the "Saudi Vision 2030" campaign, which promises to turn Saudi Arabia into one of the new technology hubs of the world.
